AQUATICA
Three years ago I took up surfing with my teenage son, visiting the coastal breaks near my home town Melbourne, practically every weekend. At first I didn’t notice the tangles of washed up seaweed along the shoreline, but over time became fascinated by their strange beauty, and embarked on documenting them.
Photographed at high resolution on a flat bed scanner, the photographic images reveal with incredible detail the beauty of a feature our coastal- dwelling nation often overlooks.
Collaborating with a marine biologist to name each work, I discovered that most of the seaweed is indigenous to South Eastern Australia, the most biologically diverse seaweed habitat in the the world.
